(31.1) Analysis of one of Sebastião Salgado's photographs/short biography
In this image taken by Sebastião Salgado, you can see a young elephant running in its natural habitat. Salgado started his career off by working as an economist for 'The International Coffee Organisation' in 1973 he decided to leave this line of work to become a photographer working on news assignments but then he started taking more risks and started doing more documentary styled photographs.
The type of photographs that Salgado takes depend on the project. In the project that this image is from the style of images is very simplistic but each image tells a story. In this project all of the images are in black and white which in a way captures the essence of whats happening in the image and makes it look very simple and also quite beautiful.
This image is an action shot of an elephant running, the elephant is in the centre of the image which keeps our focus on the main subject of the image which is the elephant and nothing else. The image is powerful and at the same time very simplistic and calming due to the image being taken in black and white.
